More People Realize That The Electric Vehicle Is Not The Wave Of The Future As Advertised

It’s like the THE AUTOEXTREMIST is reading my mind:

The blind embracing of Tesla – again, that glorified kit car company that hasn’t produced even a whiff of profit or even demonstrated even the remotest suggestion of being able to bring a mainstream electric sedan to market – is Egregious Example No. 1 and proof-positive that the Green Horde will suspend all vestiges of reality in order to shove their view of a transportation future down the rest of this nation’s throat, even if the infrastructure doesn’t exist to support it now, not to mention the funds to even begin paying for it are nowhere to be found on the horizon.

Blind faith in the “new” or the “next” is one thing – I can embrace and encourage blue sky thinking and innovation as much as the next person – but abject stupidity in the face of a burgeoning reality borders on the criminal.

The hype surrounding the Electric Vehicle is the same today as it was in 1911. Furthermore, we are going to trade imported oil (mostly from Canada and Mexico) to imported lithium (for the Li-Ion batteries) from places like Boliva and lithium mining is not exactly a ‘green endeavor.’

Lastly, imagine how expensive it would be if you and hundreds of your neighbors start hooking up their EV’s for re-charging. In August, when your AC is running full tilt. After you are forced to purchase very expensive ‘renewable electricity.’

Sunday Night Links: The Rat Rod Edition

The weather around the Motor City has been really nice this weekend and I have noticed lots of beautiful classic cars out on the road. I even saw a Rossi SixtySix. That car looks unbelievable on the road.

Anyhow, another type of classic car that is really cool is the Rat Rod.  They are ‘unfinished’ hot rods that are a throwbacks to the late 40′s and early 50′s.

So enjoy the cool Rat Rods pic’s and some excellent writing on this beautiful Sunday night.

What is a Rat Rod?

The most important thing about a rat rod is they aren’t for wimps. You aren’t going to see very many tree huggin’ wimps driving these babies.

Jon Stewart Skewers Obama Over Campaign Promises

Summer 2010 – Dear Jenny

Dear Jenny,

My bar business has been suffering horribly since the new smoking ban has gone into effect. Friday nights used to be busy till last call, and the cigar club that used to meet here now gathers up in a barn down the road. What am I supposed to do? My liquor license alone cost me $50,000, and since I laid off 4 employees, my unemployment insurance has skyrocketed. ~ Smoked in Holland

First Oil Rig Leaving The Gulf Of Mexico Due To Obama ‘Moratorium’

The first oil rig in the gulf has set sail to Egypt due to the legal battle that Obama is waging. Via Ace:

The Gulf economy won big when the district court knocked down Obama’s drilling ban as “arbitrary and capricious” and won again at the Fifth Circuit, which refused to keep the ban in effect during the appeal. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration keeps signaling that it won’t allow drilling no matter what the courts say. On the day the Fifth Circuit ruled against, the Administration announced that if any company attempted to resume drilling it would reissue its drilling moratorium, forcing the issue back to the courts again.

That is the very definition of “arbitrary and capricious” government action, but the uncertainty it creates is more than enough to depress economic activity in the Gulf.

This is going to cost tens of thousands of jobs and will cause serious long term economic damage.

Life After People: Red Foxes Spotted In Downtown Detroit

****a post I rescued from the great Google cache *****

Detroit is becoming it’s own version of ‘Life After People‘ episode. Via clickondetroit.com:

The red fox is carving out a place of its own deep into downtown, joining the ranks of raccoons, skunks, opossum, white-tailed deer and red-tailed hawks finding homes in untended lots, houses and buildings in the rusting one-time car capital.

………………………………………………………………….

Found across all parts of the state, red foxes typically stick close to more rural areas. But Detroit’s dwindling population has meant less noise and more places for foxes to hunt rats, mice, voles, pheasants, cotton tail rabbits and even pigeons. Many neighborhoods have so few remaining houses that adjoining lots resemble small prairies and woodlands, and Detroit’s extensive freeway system and old railroad connections linking the inner city to less populated areas are now serving as routes for wildlife.”As we move out, wildlife moves in,” said Matthew Walter, a fox researcher at Antioch University’s New England campus in New Hampshire.

As I’ve said before, there is not one elected Republican (conservative or otherwise) within 20 miles of Detroit city hall. The city has not had a Republican mayor since Louis Miriani, who’s term ended in 1962. Detroit is an excellent example of what following Liberal Democrat policy leads to.
