Interesting Graph: Unemployment vs. Congress

A reminder that elections have consequences:

unemployment rate vs. party that controlls congress

Remember, Liberal Democrats think unemployment checks are the fastest way to stimulate the economy:

And in related news, only 25% of Americans think 2008′s ‘stimulus’ has helped the economy. Via Rasmussen:

Just 25% of voters nationwide believe the economic stimulus package created jobs and voters are counting on decisions made by business owners more than government officials to create the jobs needed by the nation.

Those results come from a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey conducted the night before release of the government report on job creation in June. That report showed the unemployment rate falling to 9.5% but also showed that just 83,000 private sector jobs were created.

The new survey found that just 29% believe last year’s economic stimulus plan has helped the economy while 43% believe it hurt. Not surprisingly, there is little appetite for another round. By a 69% to 15% margin, voters believe tax cuts is a better way to create jobs rather than more government spending.

Democrats are planning to let the biggest tax increase in American history occur in January 2011. Immediately after the 2010 election.

Even Recent College Graduates With Advanced Degrees Finding A Tough Job Market

It’s a bit ironic when you think about it. The mostly liberal educational institutes push a college education as the only way to get ahead in the job market while their liberal policies are crushing the economy.

Via the WSJ:

Caitlin Johnson, 23 years old, may soon find herself among them. A 2009 graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in computer-science and engineering, she said she was unable to land any of the 10 positions she applied for.

So she opted to stay at MIT for her master’s in engineering. Having just finished her first year of the two-year program, Ms. Johnson said she might look for a job at the end of the summer to start after she completes the degree next year. But finding graduate school more appealing and facing a job market that remains weak, she said she would most likely go on to earn her Ph.D.

What does that say about the economy when a engineering graduate from MIT can’t find work.

Aneri Patel, 25, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007 with an undergraduate degree in international relations. She landed a good job with a consulting firm, but decided to go to the London School of Economics in 2008 to learn more about climate change and be a stronger candidate in the job market. She never imagined how bad the job market would get while she was overseas in graduate school.

Learn more about ‘climate change’?

Climate change is proven fraud and hoax. And the ‘remedy’ to the mythical climate change, green energy, is a proven job killer.

Most Ethical Congress In History: Democrats Deem as Passed Non-Existent $1.12 Trillion Budget

Nothing is going to stop the Democrats out of control spending. Via Human Events:

Last night, as part of a procedural vote on the emergency war supplemental bill, House Democrats attached a document that “deemed as passed” a non-existent $1.12 trillion budget. The execution of the “deeming” document allows Democrats to start spending money for Fiscal Year 2011 without the pesky constraints of a budget.

The procedural vote passed 215-210 with no Republicans voting in favor and 38 Democrats crossing the aisle to vote against deeming the faux budget resolution passed.

Never before — since the creation of the Congressional budget process — has the House failed to pass a budget, failed to propose a budget then deemed the non-existent budget as passed as a means to avoid a direct, recorded vote on a budget, but still allow Congress to spend taxpayer money. (emphasis added)

Congress has never, since the creation of the Congressional Budget process, failed to create a budget until today.

What did Nancy Pelosi say about the most ethical Congress ever?

Democrat Bill Delahunt Is Sponsoring A Bill Requiring Internet And Mail Order Retailer To Collect Sales Taxes

You knew this was coming. Via cnet:

The halcyon days of tax-free Internet shopping will, if Rep. Bill Delahunt gets his way, soon be coming to an abrupt end.

Delahunt, a Massachusetts Democrat, introduced a bill on Thursday that would rewrite the ground rules for Internet and mail order sales by eliminating the option for many Americans to shop over the Internet without paying state sales taxes.

At the moment, Americans who shop over the Internet from out-of-state vendors usually aren’t required to pay sales taxes. Californians buying books from Amazon.com or cameras from Manhattan’s B&H Photo, for example, won’t be required to cough up the sales taxes that they would if shopping at a local mall.

This is hardly a new debate: pro-tax officials and state governments have been pressing Congress to require taxes to be collected for a decade or so. They argue that reduced sales tax revenue threatens budgets for schools and police, and say that, as a matter of fairness, online retailers should be forced to collect the same taxes that brick-and-mortar retailers do.

But with states scrambling for new sources of revenue during what may be a double-dip recession, pro-tax lobbyists are hoping that they’ll have better luck this year. The National Conference of State Legislatures applauded Delahunt’s legislation, saying he should be commended for allowing states to collect as much as $23 billion in new taxes.

I fail to understand how siphoning out another $23 billion from we the people and into the hands of the government is going to help our economy. How about the government tighten its belt for a change.

Extreme Tree Hugging: The Urban Folding Bicycle That Converts To A Shopping Cart

Global warming (or climate change if its cool outside) is so 2008. Via Treehugger.com:

Riding your bike to the farmer’s market or store rather than driving is a great way to trim down your carbon footprint. But the excuses can still pour forward from reluctant riders — “I don’t want my bike to get stolen while I’m inside,” or “I don’t have baskets on my bike to carry things home,” or “What if I buy too much and can’t fit it on my bike?” A new concept bike that transforms into a shopping cart solves all these concerns and leaves little room for other excuses for driving rather then pedaling to the store.

Yep, this will work in mid January. In Michigan.

While it seems a little contradictory that you could cut your carbon footprint by cycling only to raise it by shopping, if you’re shopping at the farmer’s market for local food, or making other carbon-savvy purchases, then it is a seriously green design. We’re hoping this concept design finds its way into the market place.

In a related story, all the talk about C02 (carbon) is really unnecessary. Not only is there no scientific proof that the entire world is warming (and man is causing it), there isn’t even a “consensus.” Via Ace:

“Claims such as ‘2,500 of the world’s leading scientists have reached a consensus that human activities are having a significant influence on the climate’ are disingenuous,” the paper states unambiguously, adding that they rendered “the IPCC vulnerable to outside criticism.”

I would save your money (and dignity) and skip the goofy bike.
