The 2010 Election Is Only The First Step

Conservatives everywhere are getting fired up for the 2010 election coming this November. Via Dick Morris:

Thanks to the leadership of President Obama, Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid, the Democratic Party is facing the biggest defeat in midterm elections in the past 110 years, perhaps surpassing the modern record of a 74-seat gain set in 1922. They will also lose control of the Senate.

Republicans are now leading in 54 Democratic House districts. In 19 more, the incumbent congressman is under 50 percent and his GOP challenger is within five points. That makes 73 seats where victory is within easy grasp for the Republican Party. The only reason the list is not longer is that there are 160 Democratic House districts that were considered so strongly blue that there is no recent polling available.

While this is great news, conservatives need to keep in mind two things. First, not one vote has been counted, so don’t get overconfident. There is still over a month to go. Every conservative needs to get out and vote.

Second, and most important, is the fact that the progressives / liberals have been working tirelessly since the turn of the last century advancing their liberal machinations. It will take many more elections (maybe decades) to return the federal government to its proper size and function.

The 2010 election is only the first step.

Scary Graphs: Gold, Silver and Copper vs. Dow Jones

I’ve been hearing a lot of noise regarding the “big September” for the Dow. However, if you compare gold prices against the Dow, things don’t look so good:

Or if you compare silver prices against the Dow:

Or if you compare copper prices against the Dow:

If you use gold, silver or copper as a baseline, the Dow Jones gains don’t looks so great.

The Motor City’s Very Own Alice Cooper Nominated To Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Very cool:

Cooper, 62, is one of 15 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2011, which was announced this morning on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s website. The other nominees are Detroit favorites J. Geils Band, Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, Chic, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Dr. John, LL Cool J, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, Tom Waits and Chuck Willis.

Five of the nominees will be chosen for induction; inductees are typically named in December or January. Artists are eligible for induction into the Rock Hall 25 years after their first release.

Cooper, born Vincent Furnier in Allen Park, released his debut album, “Pretties for You,” in 1969. He went on to pioneer an over-the-top style of shock rock with a stage show that included beheadings via guillotine, electric chairs and fake blood. Artists ranging from Kiss to Marilyn Manson to the Insane Clown Posse owe Cooper a debt of gratitude.

Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, Tom Waits and Bon Jovi*.? That is a really weak field. If Bon Jovi makes it and the Coop doesn’t…

A Peek Inside The Mind Of An Angry Liberal Columnist

As a public service to conservatives everywhere, I have found a recent column from one of Michigan’s more cranky Liberals, Susan J. Demas (who has a serious case of Palin Derangement Syndrome) that offers a rare look inside the mind of an angry liberal.

It’s not pretty:

The extreme right, led by recovering drug addict Rush Limbaugh and English-challenged Alaskan Princess Sarah Palin, are pulling out all the stops for the hopelessly unqualified O’Donnell. All polling indicates she is utterly unelectable. But they figure if they pump her up enough on Fox News and AM Radio and pour millions of dollars into her campaign, she can win in a good GOP year.

They may be right.

Especially if Democrats don’t get off their self-pitying asses and vote. If they were smart, they would turn the crazy-eyed O’Donnell into the Republican poster girl. Their message to voters should be: Don’t be fooled by the GOP act that they just want to cut spending and your taxes. This is the face of the Republican Party and it ain’t pretty.

I really don’t understand all the hatred from Ms. Demas directed at a Senate candidate from… Delaware.  If O’Donnell is such an awful candidate,  you would think she would be really happy with the way things shook out.

She is not:

Polls overwhelmingly show that Americans hate tax breaks for the rich, in spite of shameless cheerleading by TV media-types who clearly benefits from them. Why Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid haven’t held votes repeatedly on these George W. Bush tax cuts set to expire to humiliate Republicans is beyond me.

It’s a no-brainer.

Is it class warfare? Yes, and an extremely popular form of it. But Wall Street can breathe a sigh of relief that Democrats are too feckless to exploit it.

Nice. Class warfare…Good idea Susan.

In closing her column, Susan try’s rallying her Liberal cohorts by calling them morons. I guess it works in Liberal circles:

And, oh yeah, liberals whined about every piece of that landmark legislation — which has fundamentally altered the course of American history -- as howling failures and a capitulation to moderation.

Morons.

As a Conservative, I would remind our side to stay focused that the 2010 election. It is not in the bag…

My Favorite President: Vaclav Klaus Understands Freedom And Economics

I wonder if the Czech people would be interested in a trade?

Klaus, a free-market economist who oversaw a wave of privatization in the 1990s after communism collapsed in his homeland, also said the world was “moving in the wrong direction” in combating the economic crisis.

“The anti-crisis measures that have been proposed and already partly implemented follow from the assumption that the crisis was a failure of markets and that the right way out is more regulation of markets,” he said.

Klaus said that was a “mistaken assumption” and it was impossible to prevent future crises through regulatory interventions and similar actions by governments.

That will only “destroy the markets and together with them the chances for economic growth and prosperity in both developed and developing countries,” he said.

The Czech president, a vocal skeptic of global warming, said the United Nations should also keep out of science, including climate change. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has made fighting climate change one of his top priorities.

Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) Trying To Provide Cover For Democrats Health Care Votes

Friday the worst governor in America, Michigan’s very own Jennifer Granholm, used state IT resources (and her weekly address) to broadcast a thinly veiled campaign commercial in an effort to give Michigan’s House Democrats cover for their vote in favor of ObamaCare. Via the State Of Michigan web site:

If you have health insurance, your coverage is now stronger and better, thanks to health care reform.

Back in March, Congress passed and President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – the single most important reform of America’s health care system in decades.

Of course, many people are starting to find out just how much their ‘new and improved’ insurance is going to cost them.

Some desert residents already feel the increased costs associated with the new benefits in the form of double-digit rate increases on their health insurance premiums.

Michael Nance, 49, and his wife Sonja Nance, 50, who own an Avis Rent A Car franchise in Palm Desert, have an individual Aetna plan for themselves and their 21-year-old son. They were recently notified their premiums will rise 17 percent on Friday — from $590 to $689.
The letter announcing the increase also came with a notice saying the Nances could change their policy to one with a higher deductible and lower premiums, but as the health care reform law continues to mandate new benefits, their premiums could rise again.

Come January, 2011 paychecks across the country will be significantly lighter after the Bush tax cuts expire* and insurance premiums increase thanks to the new ObamaCare mandates.

*You know after the mid term elections, lame duck Democrats in the Senate will not extend the Bush tax cuts.

Hollywood Liberal Says “European Socialism Works” while European Union Says “No It Doesn’t”

Hollywood Liberal Bill Maher is “not afraid” to say European socialism works.

Via NewsBusters:

Of course what Bill Maher meant to say was “I’m not afraid to display my complete stupidity for all to see.” Because, as Maher uttered that nonsense, the European Union is working overtime to reign in the explosion in its spending.

Via Eurosavant:

And a scoop it truly is, for the FT journalists (Peter Spiegel and Joshua Chaffin) have unearthed proposed “legislation” set to be officially unveiled by Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn next Wednesday, which their article terms “the EU’s most ambitious attempt to reorder its economic governance since this spring’s debt crisis that nearly destroyed the single currency.” Basically, the Commission would step up to take up a role in examining the national budgets of the 16 Eurozone member-states in a big way, with the authority to impose fines of 0.2% of GDP on governments which “consistently fail to bring down their public debt levels” – or “fail to control their annual spending,” or “fail to reform their economies to improve their competitiveness.” Once having decided to fine a member-state, the Commission under the proposal could only be stopped by a qualified majority vote from the European Council within 10 days of the decision. (Similar rules for member-states still outside the Eurozone will apparently be forthcoming later.)

Earth to Bill….. European socialism is failing right before our eyes. Why would we want to emulate that?

Even In Europe People Are Catching On That High Taxes Kill The Economy

Via Adam Smith Blog:

A few days ago the Evening Standard carried a story about Ken Livingstone’s call for an 80% tax rate. He wants those earning over £200,000 to pay a 60% rate of income tax and those earning over £1,000,000 to pay an 80% rate.

Clearly such a policy would be self-destructive. No one would pay such extraordinary rates of tax, tax takes would fall, growth would slump and tax evasion would rocket. It would mean that the government punished success and aspiration with nothing to show for it. If anything, the government should be looking to remove the 50p tax rate, which raises little extra money, damages growth and send the wrong message to Britain’s businesses.

Even worse than this economic illiteracy is the way Ken has presented the tax as an attack on bankers. In fact, the vast majority of people earning over £1 million are businessmen and entrepreneurs who invest in this country. Attacking them and the wealth they create would hurt businesses in need of investment and capital at this critical time.

Of course, for the current bunch of liberal incompetents running our government today, taxes have nothing to do with the economy, and everything to do with politics and pandering:

“Democrats believe we must permanently extend tax cuts for the middle-class before they expire at the end of the year, and we will.,” Reid spokesman Jim Manley said in a written statement that blamed the GOP for the delay. “Democrats will not allow families in Nevada and across the country to suffer or be held hostage by Republicans who would rather give tax giveaways to millionaires and corporations that ship jobs overseas. We will come back in November and stay in session as long as it takes to get this done.”

Sen Chris Dodd, D-CT, told reporters, “I think there are strong views being held. I, for one, subscribe to the notion that we ought to have a vote to extend the tax cuts for those that really need them and stop those for the ones who don’t,” Dodd said, but he quickly added, “There’s a mixed view. Tax policy is not our strongest political argument with the national public. We know that. It’s a divided caucus. That’s not uncommon.”

Several Democrats advocated for a delay, saying it is the one way to ensure politics does not enter into the equation. Republicans want to extend all of the tax cuts and are poised to pounce on any bill that falls short, as well as any member who does not support their position.

They should cut all taxes, across the board. It is telling that you have Liberal Democrats such as Harry Reid and the ethically challenged Chris Dodd stating they want to let people and organizations whom they deem worthy and “need” a tax break receive one while punishing others with confiscatory tax rates.

The Incredible Lightness of Being Liberal

Cyber Attack On Nuclear Plant?

If there was a match, Stuxnet automatically took over control of the PLC and hid any changes from workers operating or managing a system, according to Schouwenberg.

“When the operator looks at the plant, everything will look just fine,” Schouwenberg said. “Meanwhile, the machine will be overloading. Its ultimate goal is cyber sabotage.”

“Stuxnet manipulates a fast running process,” Langner explained at his website. “We can expect that something will blow up soon. Something big.”

The software saboteur has been found lurking on systems in India, Indonesia, Pakistan and elsewhere, but the heaviest infiltration appeared to be in Iran, according to software security researchers.

“This was assembled by a highly qualified team of experts, involving some with specific control system expertise,” Langner said.

“This is not some hacker sitting in the basement of his parents’ house. The resources needed to stage this attack point to a nation state.”

The pattern of spread correlated somewhat with jobs handled by a firm commissioned to work at nuclear facilities, according to researchers.
