“It’s the economy, stupid.”
James Carville
With all the news, noise and spin that is happening, it is really important not to get distracted.
The WikiLeak indecent is a perfect example.
The State Department documents are now out in the open. If anyone was going to do anything about the leak, the time to act was months ago. Worrying and arguing about them today is academic and not worth conservatives time or energy. It is a distraction and nothing more.
Going forward, the most important thing is repairing our economy. Everything else is secondary.
Think about it, foreign policy and diplomacy are a moot point with no money. Ask your self, exactly how much foreign policy influence does East Timor wield?
The real battle is in stopping Obama and the Democrats all out war on our economy, not arguing the latest ‘scandal of the week.’
Today, Obama has dealt our economy another severe blow with the continuation of his unilateral ban on off shore drilling in eastern Gulf of Mexico and off both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
Obama is wrapping his ban in the excuse that its too dangerous to drill and we can’t risk another oil spill. Predictably, environmentalists (who rarely think things through) are pleased with Obama’s unilateral decision.
Activists such as Margie Alt, executive director of Environment America, also praised the administration’s plan, saying, “Today, anyone who loves our beaches, who fishes in the ocean or who depends on a healthy coastal economy can thank the Obama administration for protecting the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and the west coast of Florida from oil drilling. The BP disaster earlier this year was a tragic reminder that drilling is a dirty and dangerous business. The only way to truly keep our coasts and ocean ecosystems safe is to keep them rig free.”
Someone needs to send a strongly worded letters to China, Canada, Vietnam, Russia, Angola, Brazil, Malaysia, Norway, Spain, India, Hugo Chavez (Venezuela) and Fidel Castro (Cuba) informing them that Obama doesn’t approve of offshore drilling in our back yard. Because that is exactly what they are doing off the coast of Cuba (roughly 90 miles from the Florida Keys).

The environmental argument used to justify the drilling ban is incredibly weak. Who would care more for Florida’s coastal environment Americans drilling for our own oil or Hugo Chavez?
Real energy (not the wind or solar nonsense) and raw material production is the foundation of a strong economy. Obama’s latest oil drilling ban is not only going to destroy all the direct and indirect jobs in the effected areas, this ban will spread higher prices for virtually everything across the entire economy, causing further damage.
Again, conservatives should not get tripped up in the”scandal of the week” and remain focused on what is truly important.
Remember, “it’s the economy, stupid.”
