“If you are here to ask for more money, you are in the wrong office!”

It seems some elected officials got the message.

Simply sending more money to Washington is not going to solve the problem of unchecked spending; every year the US Treasury receives more money; every year the federal government spends more than it takes in. Consequently, increasing taxes is not the answer.

Eating Their Own: EPA Fining Two Biomass Power Plants $835K

Via the EPA:

Ampersand Chowchilla Biomass, LLC, (ACB), and Merced Power, LLC, (MP), located within 12 miles of each other in the San Joaquin Valley, are required to pay $328,000 and $492,000, respectively; EPA and the District will split the penalty equally. ACB is also required to pay an extra $15,000 to the District for a District-only violation.

After refurbishing the plants in 2007-2008, ACB and MP initiated operations in 2008. A joint investigation by the EPA and District found that ACB and MP violated the air permits issued to them by the District by:

  • Emitting air pollutants including nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide in excess of the permit limits;
  • Failing to perform timely source testing to measure emissions of various air pollutants;
  • Failing to properly install and operate emissions control systems for nitrogen oxides, a precursor to ozone; and
  • Failing to certify the continuous emissions monitoring systems.

The plants also violated various District rules including requirements for emissions control plans.

Biomass power plants use green waste from farms and other operations that would otherwise be subject to open burning, and construction debris that might have gone to a landfill, to generate power.

I guess Biomass green energy isn’t all that green after all.

Tuesday Night Quick Hits: The Chinese Stealth Fighter Edition

According to experts, China’s new J-20 stealth jet is designed to attack oceanic shipping in general and aircraft carriers in particular. Via The DEW Line:

But Karnozov believes the Chinese are no aerodynamic dummies. Rather, he concludes the J-20 has been optimized for a very specific role: a high-speed, intercept-evading, aircraft carrier-killer. In an English translation of the article that Karnozov kindly contributed to The DEW Liine, he writes:

“In my view the Chinese designers optimized their new jet for M=1.4-1.6. Here comes the clue: the J-20 is a missile launching platform able to evade enemy interceptors by means of a high cruise speed. The J-20 may prove a good interceptor — very possibly. But its main task seems to be anti-shipping: firing missiles at enemy warships while denying their air defense cover.”

Perfect. Our government is meddling in areas that it shouldn’t and are subsidizing economically and technologically flawed green energy projects. And, at the same time are not focusing on their constitutionally mandated duties to provide for a common defense.

There some truly despicable, racist bastards on the Far Left!

FCBZ: The greatest orator to occupy the oval office… Ever:

It was only a matter of time for POTUS. Pres. Barack Obama accidentally dropped the S-word profanity during a budget press conference this week. As you likely recall, the man claimed by some to be the “greatest orator ever” in the Oval Office (if his teleprompters are working properly and no one asks him a question) dropped an F-bomb at a correspondents dinner, mispronounced “corps man” as “corpse-man” TWICE in the same speech, and whose vice president exclaimed “this is a f-ckin’ big deal” in regards to the unconstitutional, trillion-dollar disaster of ObamaCare passing.

U.S. Forest Service Is Using Global Warming To Justify New & Stricter Rules

If you ever wondered why politicians and government bureaucrats so readily embrace the global warming (if its warmer than usual) or climate change (if its cooler than normal) hoax, look no further than the latest release form the USDA’s Forest Service.

The Forest Service is proposing new (read stricter) rules for managing our national forests and are using the global warming hoax as big part of the justification for the new rules.

  • A more effective and efficient framework that would allow adaptive land management planning in the face of climate change and other stressors.
  • Increased requirements for public involvement and collaboration throughout all stages of land management planning.
  • Improved ability to respond to climate change and other stressors through provisions to restore and maintain healthy and resilient ecosystems.
  • Increased protections for water resources and watersheds.
  • More effective and proactive requirements to provide for diverse native plant and animal species.
  • Provisions to guide the contributions of a National Forest or National Grassland to social and economic sustainability.
  • Updated provisions for sustainable land, water and air-based recreation.
  • Requirements to provide for integrated resource management of a range of multiple uses and values including outdoor recreation, range, timber, water, wildlife, wilderness, energy, mining, and ecosystem services.
  • New requirements for a local and landscape-scale monitoring program that are based on the latest science.

The Forest Service even throws in a little Environmental Justice for good measure as well.

If this isn’t enough discussion about global warming here is another paragraph discussing how the Forest Service is helping to combat the non problem of global warming:

The USDA Forest Service manages 193 million acres of forests and grasslands across the country. Drinking water for approximately one in five Americans comes from the National Forest System. American forests, including those in the National Forest System, also capture and store enough carbon every year to offset 11 percent of the nation’s industrial greenhouse gas emissions.

Politicians and bureaucrats love control and the global warming / climate change fraud is their preferred vehicle to gain that control.

More Inflation News: Clothing Prices are Rising

Not only are food and fuel prices rising, clothing prices are rising as well:

It’s obvious that with input costs rising there was an increase in clothing prices coming. The big story here to watch is whether or not clothing retailers, that have seen consumer demand rebound, will be able to pass on these higher prices to consumers without seeing a loss in sales. Last week, Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Lorraine Hutchinson said clothing companies would have a harder time passing on these costs to consumers than other retailers.

The sector may be in for a rough patch if demand deteriorates when higher prices set in.

Remember, consumer spending accounts for 70% of our GDP. With broad based inflation seeping into every corner of the economy, consumers are going to pull back their wallets.

I also felt like Paul Ryan’s debt ceiling discussion with Ben Bernanke was nothing but a show to appease the masses. I like Paul Ryan; but I’m beginning to think this is more about creating the illusion of fixing a problem than actually rolling up our sleeves and tackling our spending problem. I’m sorry but cutting $74 billion in spending is a drop in the bucket when you are talking about a trillion dollars in deficit spending.
