Sunday Morning Links: Visualizing the year 2000 from 1900

New Years Eve is an occasion to celebrate the passage of time. In keeping with that theme I found these postcards printed in 1900 that imagining what life would be like in the year 1900 at PaleoFuture:

Paleo-Future reader Tom T. sent me an amazing collection of postcards from the dawn of the twentieth century that depict what life would be like in the year 2000. According to Tom the postcards were originally featured here but have since been removed. The site claimed that the postcards were produced by Hildebrands (a leading German chocolate company of the time).

Weather Machine

One interesting point is several of the post cards illustrate that even in the 1900′s people wanted to control the weather.

Very cool Steve! I really like the walking on water idea. Oh, I forgot, Obama has already got that down.

    Happy New Year!

Obama has that whole walking on water thing down in his own (and his followers) mind.

Happy New Year yo you as well!

Thank you so much for the link Steve. At the rate we’re going we will be happy to get back to all the modern conveniences of the 1900s after Obama is done with America. How could America be so dumb to reelect this hater.

How could America be so dumb to reelect this hater.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one myself.

A bullet train to cross the oceans. That sounds like someting Obama would invest in with our money.

    Thanks for the link, Steve.

Ha! Because going under the oceans is a much better idea than going over the oceans…

Thanks for the link. Love those pictures.

I have an idea for the ship on wheels that might work better. It would also get us around those infernal overpayed unionized dock workers. Consider the fact that a great deal of a ship’s cargo is containerized. What if we used airships to load and unload cargo from ships as they neared their “destinations”?

In the not so distant past, both the Germans and the United States succeeded in building huge airships. With modern technology, we can do an even better job. With today’s technology, we could build bigger, safer airships. Such airships could allow merchant ships to load and unload the cargo along coastlines where port facilities do not even exist.

Thanks, and cool idea about the airships.
