Lansing, Take Note Of Farmington’s Approach To The Economy
The City Of Farmingon, Michigan has the right idea of how to get out of the Granholm / Obama economy. The city is calling it self ‘redevelopment ready’ and is using a proven pro-growth plan that will help the city prosper for years to come. Via hometownlife.com:
Armed with a variety of new tools, including tax incentives and expanded land uses, the city of Farmington is positioned to attract new business to its downtown and commercial areas as the state and national economies head toward recovery.
Other road blocks the city is removing are:
Less restrictive parking requirements, a sign incentive program, available outdoor seating, as well as state and local tax incentives, historic preservation tax credits, and loans for building fa?ßade improvements are among changes the city and its Downtown Development Authority created to jump-start Farmington’s business centers, said Christiansen, vice chairman of the city’s planning commission and member of the zoning board of appeals.
City government is also helping the cause by promising less red tape. Another idea the city is embracing is building up to cut costs for owners and infill properties:
To spur redevelopment, the DDA is encouraging property owners to consider infill properties, as well as “popping the top” – which involves increasing building heights by adding up to six stories on downtown buildings – under the new master plan.
All good ideas to keep the city and area prospering rather than the Democrat “tax every last item and strangle growth” approach to economics.
