NYT Trying To Sell Boston Globe
2009 June 14
If they stopped relying on the big gas guzzling SUV’s and built small efficient, fuel sipping…. Wait, wrong argument.
The Boston Globe looks like it’s either going to be sold by the NYT or heading to bankruptcy. Via the NYT:
Now it seems that the dollar that buys you a copy on a newsstand may buy you the whole organization behind it. And it doesn’t help that the last three big sales involving metropolitan newspapers — the Tribune Company, the Philadelphia papers and The Star-Tribune in Minneapolis — all ended in bankruptcy. It appears that The Boston Globe may be put in play by its owner, The New York Times Company (which also owns me, so keep a salt shaker handy). The Globe lost an estimated $50 million last year and was said to be on track to lose $85 million this year.
Welcome to the real world.
