Obama Considering Bulldozing Sections Of Flint
Obama and his Democrat minions are looking at a plan to bulldoze areas in several cities, many in the rust belt, in an effort to shrink their size in order to ’survive’. Via The Telegraph.uk:
Dozens of US cities may have entire neighbourhoods bulldozed as part of drastic “shrink to survive” proposals being considered by the Obama administration to tackle economic decline.
The government looking at expanding a pioneering scheme in Flint, one of the poorest US cities, which involves razing entire districts and returning the land to nature.
Local politicians believe the city must contract by as much as 40 per cent, concentrating the dwindling population and local services into a more viable area.
The radical experiment is the brainchild of Dan Kildee, treasurer of Genesee County, which includes Flint.
Having outlined his strategy to Barack Obama during the election campaign, Mr Kildee has now been approached by the US government and a group of charities who want him to apply what he has learnt to the rest of the country.
Mr Kildee said he will concentrate on 50 cities, identified in a recent study by the Brookings Institution, an influential Washington think-tank, as potentially needing to shrink substantially to cope with their declining fortunes.
Most are former industrial cities in the “rust belt” of America’s Mid-West and North East. They include Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Memphis.
The thing to take a way from this is theses cities are run predominantly by Democrats. Furthermore, the epic failure was brought on, in Detroit’s case in particular, by Democrat agendas running these cites in to the ground. And now that those policies have left places like Flint and Detroit in ruin, Democrats can seize on the opportunity to pander to the green movement with one of their biggest fantasy’s and partially reforest parts of major American cities.
Democrats justify this with a nice dollop of America bashing:
But Mr Kildee, who has lived there nearly all his life, said he had first to overcome a deeply ingrained American cultural mindset that “big is good” and that cities should sprawl – Flint covers 34 square miles.
He said: “The obsession with growth is sadly a very American thing. Across the US, there’s an assumption that all development is good, that if communities are growing they are successful. If they’re shrinking, they’re failing.”
Uh, why exactly are they proposing razing 40% of the city in a bid survive if it wasn’t failing?
The whole idea gives me the life after people vibe…

This is breaking my heart and making me angry. Democrats broke Flint and Michigan and now this is their answer? Poor Flint. What is next Obama, shut down small towns as inefficient and move the people into the big ones?
It’s amazing. No mention of economic growth, just sacrifice, for us. All the while he parties in NY or Paris.
As I was reading this, I missed any mention of where it was government’s responsibility to do something like this. Is it in our federal or state constitutions? Have the representatives of the peoples of these cities passed laws regarding this?
Another great plan for these cities would be to allow the free markets to take over, with far less encumbrance by the government, in order to make something good happen there.
Or, they could be allowed to remain, providing us with a sobering reminder of what democrat rule can potentially bring.
Good point regarding the legality of all this. But, unfortunately, we have seen that the law means nothing to this latest crop of Democrats and ‘The One’.
I like your idea of letting the free market sort this out.
The article in the Telegraph says this is being accomplished by a state law that allows local govt to acquire the properties “cheaply”. I am not familiar with Michigan law. Anyone have any idea if eminent domain was used, or were homeowners paid justly.
The plan to relocate some of the people who let their property deteriorate, to govt provided housing in better neighborhoods, will be a thing of beauty and something to behold in a few years.
No doubt bulldozers will be the answer again.
Look at the migration of the American people. They are leaving the failing liberal states for the economic viable conservative states. Unfortunately, most of these people bring their liberal views with them and vote accordingly. If they like liberalism, they should stay in their liberal meccas. They voted for it; they should stay and enjoy the utopia they created.
Good point!

I grew up in Flint but now live in Texas for many years so I have a very clear picture of what and what not to do. Flint, and Michigan in general, have been very hostile to business and its citizens through very punitive tax policies and over regulation, whereas Texas provides very attractive labor costs and often gives large tax breaks to lure companies, realizing that decreasing unemployment lessens the burden on the state and increases tax revenue from sales and property taxes.
How BAD does it have to get in the Beautiful state of MICHIGAN before the hard working Democrats there realize their liberal tax and spend Democrat leaders in the state and the ones they continue to send to Washington are, and continue to be 90% of the reason for Michigan’s Decline.
Buisinesses + People Building Cars is PRODUCTIVE- like an Ox pulling the plow
Gov’t+Taxes+Mandates+Regulation is CONSUMPTIVE-Like a leech
The LEECHES are now sucking more blood than the ox can PRODUCE!!!
Why is that so hard to understand?
I like the analogy of oxes and leeches. I hope people in the state and nation wake up soon, or we are all on our way to the fate of Detroit and Flint.

Yes, that’s the Republican solution, lie down for any stranger who gives you candy. Somehow I doubt the plants will move north from Mexico if you knock a few points off the income tax.
