Lexus has confirmed that the RC and RC F coupes will be discontinued after the 2025 model year, marking the end of an era for the brand’s sporty two-door lineup. To commemorate the occasion, Lexus is releasing a limited-run RC F Final Edition that promises to celebrate the car’s legacy in style.
The RC coupe series has long been a unique offering from Lexus, positioned alongside competitors like the BMW 4 Series, Audi A5, and Mercedes-Benz CLE. While the spotlight often fell on the luxurious LC coupe, the RC and its high-performance sibling, the RC F, quietly carved out their niche with bold designs and diverse configurations.
Initially introduced as a blend of the IS and the now-discontinued GS sedan platforms, the RC coupe offered something for everyone. The lineup began with the RC300, powered by a 260-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, available in both rear- and all-wheel-drive variants. The RC350 upped the ante with a 311-horsepower version of the same engine and similar drivetrain options. Rear-drive models featured an eight-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel-drive versions used a six-speed automatic. For added flair, F Sport trims of the RC350 included a Torsen limited-slip rear differential and bold-colored brake calipers.
At the top of the lineup stood the RC F, powered by a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 472 horsepower. This engine, shared with the IS500 and LC models, was a nod to Lexus’ performance roots and a rarity in today’s market dominated by turbocharged and hybrid engines. Known for its high-revving nature and distinctive exhaust note, the RC F became a favorite among enthusiasts seeking raw driving excitement.
To send off the RC F in style, Lexus is introducing the Final Edition for the 2025 model year. This special version comes equipped with 19-inch BBS forged aluminum wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Underneath, it features performance enhancements like a hand-built limited-slip rear differential, tuned for improved acceleration and deceleration. The cabin is outfitted with black and red leather, faux suede accents, a Mark Levinson audio system, and a “Final Edition” badge on the center console, complete with a build number from the limited run. Buyers can choose from four paint colors: Incognito, Radiant Red, Sonic Iridium, and Ultra White. The RC F Final Edition is offered as a mono-spec model, ensuring exclusivity and uniformity.
The 2025 RC lineup’s pricing reflects its premium appeal. The RC300 starts at $47,620, with an optional all-wheel-drive upgrade for $2,690. The RC350 is priced at $50,550, with AWD available for $2,165. F Sport variants of both models add sporty touches and higher price tags. At the pinnacle, the RC F Final Edition carries a starting price of $95,175 and is exclusively rear-wheel drive.
Production of the final model year RCs and RC Fs is set to begin soon, with deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2025. After this, Lexus will officially retire the RC lineup.
The decision to discontinue the RC and RC F comes as automakers shift their focus to SUVs, crossovers, and electrified powertrains. However, the RC lineup’s legacy lies in its ability to balance luxury and performance, offering a pure and exhilarating driving experience. As one of the few remaining naturally aspirated V8 coupes on the market, the RC F holds a special place in automotive history.
Lexus’ RC F Final Edition stands as a tribute to the brand’s commitment to engineering excellence and passion for driving. While the RC may be taking its final bow, its impact on the Lexus lineup and the hearts of enthusiasts will be felt for years to come.
